Why do you charge by audio minute?
Some transcription service providers charge by the word, line, or hours worked, but I think the most fair and objective way to pay for transcription is by the actual duration of your content: the number of minutes. It's a clear way to know exactly how much your transcript will cost.
What kind of files do you transcribe?
I transcribe digital files and use a program which allows me to use any file type. I also have the ability to convert most files if necessary. I can also receive CD copies of audio.
What is a clean-verbatim transcript?
A clean-verbatim transcript does not include stutters, false starts to sentences, and fillers such as "um", "uh", "you know", and "like". This makes the transcript easier to read, and is included in the basic rate.
What does "difficult audio" mean?
Difficult audio refers to qualities in the recording that increase the time it takes to transcribe audio and video content, and then proof and review the transcript. This includes poor recording quality, mumbling or unclear speech, thick accents (domestic and foreign), or heavy industry-specific terminology. An additional fee per audio minute is charged – it will vary from .5 to .25 cents per audio minute additional once I review the audio.
Do you include timestamps?
Timestamps mark the time of the spoken content in the transcript. They can be included at time intervals of your choosing. There is an add-on charge of $0.20 per audio minute for timestamps.
Frequently Asked Questions about my services
When can I expect my transcript?
The projected turnaround time is 48 hours per 2 hours of audio. I am always up front about turnaround time and should there be a delay I will contact you.
How do I pay for my transcript?
For projects less than 10 files, half the project payment is requested up front for first time clients. Returning customers will be invoiced and payment will be due within 24 hours of invoice after you receive your completed files. I accept Payment via Paypal, Venmo, Check or Money Order. Should you choose Check or Money order, your files will not be sent to you until payment is received and cleared with my financial institution.
How are transcripts delivered?
Transcripts are delivered as Word documents via email or can be loaded to Google Drives or DropBox.
What happens to my files after I get the transcript?
I understand the importance of privacy and the security of your information. All audio files are removed from my system once your invoices have been paid. I keep the completed files backed up for 3 months unless otherwise requested.
